There's a programme on Channel 4 at the moment about modelling - the description says "a fascinating insight into the both the glamour and the dark side...."
After watching about 10 mins, I was wondering why anyone would want to do this. Then one model was talking about getting cheques for a hunderd thousand (not sure if dollars or pounds as they appear to travel around quite a lot), so I guess that explains it!
Still about an hour left.

That's a good article Thorsten (guardian.co.uk), and deals with a
lot of the points raised in the film. It's certainly disturbing to hear
that the majority of these girls (and many of them very young)
apparently "will have stories" about fashion photographers attempting
to take advantage of them.
I'd imagine there are relatively
few models who can earn the huge fees that those in the film were
talking about, and maybe there should have been more about the lots of
others who aspire to work for the big agencies but never get a chance.
I think it was an interesting insight into the highs and lows of international fashion modelling. The fact that it featured Monaghan model Caitriona Balfe gave it an interesting "local" angle too. It was rather disturbing to hear Sena Cech's account of one of her photographic modelling experiences. So much for agencies looking out for models! The Guardian covered this and other aspects of the documentary in an article on their website - worth a read for anyone that missed the programme - click here for more.
Hi Louise. Well let's think about this... They get to work in Paris, London, New York, Milan. They get lotz a cash - the kind of cheques that lets them buy trendy flats in fashionable places. Plenty of free time to go on holidays....
But, yeah, they don't seem very happy.
I like the way its filmed - a boyfriend with a little video cam. Gives a good insight into their lives.
Im watching it at the moment....to be honest im seeing a lot of darkness to the industry!
hopefully it'll pick up!
