Moir pattern

Moir pattern

I recently took photographs of a girl wearing ballet gear.  The shots were mainly from the knee down.
When I printed them on A3 i got a moir pattern on the tights.  I printed again at 2880 DPI and still had the pattern.

I tried various tricks to get rid of or reduce the problem by using selections in the noise filter such as "median" (of 1) and "despeckle" (desperation) but no joy.

I know why I'm getting the pattern - it's a conflict between the pixel/tights pattern of the picture versus the dot pattern of the printer.  But does anybody have suggestions to get rid of it?

Seems like you've tried the usual remedies for this. I presume you're printing on an inkjet printer? If so, I'd suggest trying to get this printed on a continuous tone printer such as a Lightjet or Lambda or a dye sublimation printer.

a trick that works for me is....before printing lower the magnification on your screen then print..eg show print at ,say 25%, then lower it to, say 12%. You are only changing the view size not the print size. Works for me..worth a try.

The first thing I have to do is apologise for not returning to this sooner.  I have been up to my eyes over the past week and didn't have much more time other than to drop in and out.
Went back to the photo in question and tried to duplicate the problem and couldn't.  I have no idea why except that I might have changed the size and then printed at a size other than 100%.

However, if it happens again I'll try the dye sublimation route and see what happens.  I also see that Varis has a remedy and I've ordered his book.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
