Ciaran u are right but a couple of low res pics on the net is it the end of the world if she takes them .

of course if the girl had manners she would have asked could she use them that to me is the real thing and would u then have let her use them.!!

Here's my view,

copyright is the only real protection photographers have, simple as, now the photographer can allow or sell copyright either limited or outright to a client/model but this is the photographers choice,

Photographers need this protection even more now because of the web so we should embrace it not try to water it down.

copying of images should not be allowed, because this is the photographers livelihood, from the on set of scanners etc photographers have lost business because clients would buy one image and then scan the image for the rest of the family, this will only bring the industry down, not only does the photographer lose on resales, but he may well loose a client if someone see's a poorly printed scan. For this reason some photographer put a copyright water mark on images, photographic processors should question where a image comes from, in the past on a few occassions I have had to give permission to a photo lab for them to print one of my images for a model, this is good practice but many let it slip,

All photographers whether amatuer or professional on this site should show their support for copyright as you may need it at sometime, copyright is copyright, whether its images of Model/landscapes/ sporting events, as these can all lose you money, you never know when you will get a break to enter the industry and will need the protection,

So bottom line is, copyright is the photographers its up to them to keep or give away, personally I mostly do tfx shoots so I allow the models to use the images, this does not allow the models to sell the images to a 3rd party.

Seeing this from each side, from amatuer and professional, When I started of I would have been pleased if someone thought my pics good enough to use, but from a professional outlook you need to protect your livelihood.

If a model is paid then its up to the photographer to offer her the use of images,

Its a bit like going out for a meal that you are paying for and the waiter coming, sitting down at the table and steeling your chips LOL

hmmm I got the concept alright as for TFP/CD and the model being paid but I still dont understand how she managed to get the picture from the portfolio to her other site since that picture should have looked like a relatively small stamp....

Ciaran - I got it now thanks

Ger - They know I am a nice guy

I know you feel its not fair to you, however this is a promotion,if she added a credit to you,she let people know about you.
When I work with the team we all use the images but credit everyone who produced the images,we all get more work and are seen.

I always get some couple of images (web size) even if im paid and also photographers ask me for putting them on my website.
Im often asked about who my hair did,who my make up did...the same for them when they ask who the model is....etc...i really see it more like a benefit

I think its fair to ask you if they can use them but dont see it like a big problem if they credit you :-)

Your work is excellent and you should be really proud

I think the promotion concept is an interesting one. A lot of people seem to think that a model, displaying an image on their profile is a win/win situation. However, I see it differently.

Win/win: No money changes hands, both get the images, both get promoted

Lose/win: Photographer pays model, both get the images, both get promoted

Win/lose: Model pays photographer, both get the images, both get promoted

Photographers that primarily seek TFP inevitably end up working with "novice" models as it's rare for professional models to want to shoot TFx. Promotion of their work is an asset. Photographers that pay models (i.e. me) have no need for promotion - models shoot with me simply because I pay them. Cash is my promotion.

I am happy (not satisfied) with what I shoot and I guess the more I shoot and the more I invest in my shoots, the more I want to protect my images. I really don't think it's fair for a model to expect images, when the photographer goes to the expense of studio hire, MUA fees, modelling fees and then other non-monetary costs like editing time etc.

I pay models when I need them to show off a product, so in a way a model is simply another prop to me. Sounds harsh, but it's true.

When I pay the model I don't give him/her images and mostly they never even get to see the finished images.

Models need to understand that it's theft to take images without permission. I treat it like those anti download adverts "You wouldn't steal a car, you wouldn't steal a hand bag so leave my ****ing images alone!!"

Sometimes there is a thin line here yes but there is also the way of dealing with people in this case could be better...

I don't do landscape...

My point was that the model is secondary to the product, no disrespect intended to the models. I rarely do model photography to show off the model any more, if you know what I mean.
