Following some discussions with people in "how" to get into the featured gallery:

It seems that due to images not getting into the Featured Gallery some people are taking it very personally, thinking that we are selecting image by who they are by rather than content.

I personally have no time to rub egos or cause grievances...so I will make the selection process quiet clear.

5 moderators (male/female, models/photographers, young and old(Paul))

Each can make an image Featured. That's a personal choice...but usually we would ask another moderator if we are unsure it should be Featured.

We allow members to make us aware of images that they think should be Featured or Unfeatured (so we have about 900 people to make images Featured)

There are probably 100s of images that could be Featured that are uploladed way before we added the Featured gallery...we add them as we see them.

On another note Featured images are placed in their relevant position to the main gallery i.e if we chose the first image in the main gallery to be Featured it will be the first in the Featured gallery not the last (most recently selected as you may presume)

Maybe if there was a 'report this image' feature it could be used to report an image that a member thinks should be featured (or removed).

It's good to know that as a community we can point out work that we believe should be featured especialy seeing as for the most part it's difficult for you guys to see every image that gets posted. I for one would not have thought to recommend a photo.

Perhaps you could make a sticky post on the forum with a list of mod profile links?

Maybe they just need to be told to "get a life"! I think there are a few images in my personal gallery that are worthy of being placed in the featured gallery (in addition to a couple that did make it in), but not for one minute did I ever get upset, annoyed or disgruntled that they didn't make it.

Seriously, if that's all that some people have to worry about these days then I'd say they've got a pretty good life and maybe they should be doing something else other than photography.

I've also come across many images by other photographers that would also be worthy of a place in the featured gallery but didn't make it. Again, I've never questioned why they didn't make it, but just accepted the fact.

Maybe I'm just not passionate enough about photography

Anyway, I'm sure the mods and admins have enough to be worrying about rather than satisfying people's egos!

I'll 3rd that from Thorsten and Michael, It's a lot of work to look through the pages, I personally don't care if my images go featured or not, maybe like Thorsten said I'm not passionate enough about it, though I would beg to differ as Thorstens work is fantastic and he difinately has a passion for it, If you like your images then that should be enough,

Maybe if it were possible on the next update, if an image received a certain number of comments, it could automatically be placed on the featured gallery, though this would have its own problems.

keep up the good work moderators, members remember these sites should be fun and not IMO taken to be end and be all of your photographic life/hobby

Defiantely think an image should be marked on photographer/models website if it is featured! And we should get a mail from you guys to make it sure! Brendan I want a featured image we need to get our work up :oP

Well then its for me to take a slightly different stance on this, I have one image in the featured gallery, it was actually quite nice to get featured, I am sure for you more experienced guys it comes quite easy to get featured and is therefore no big deal but for us less experienced (well me anyway) is was quite nice to get featured (as sad as it may be), even though it is not my favourite image on my Folio page.

But the main point of people getting upset about there images not getting featured is quite absurd if an image is good enough it is good enough if not then get over it. And just because an image does not get featured does not mean it is a bad image, of my 2 favourite images on this whole site one is featured and one is not!

We are lucky to have good moderators that in there own right are top togs and models!  So who better to judge (in my option), But sometimes it is nice to get recognised for an image, and for me it was nice to see from my own personal improvement point of view that one of my images had made it in and my years of toiling with the whole photography minefield were worth the effort for some commendation form my peers!

I dont think it really makes it easier to get featured nor does it matter whether your 'experienced/professional' or not.  It really depend on the vison and criterea being used to select. The featured gallery is a matter of personal choice by those that choose the images that go there based upon their own ideas, likes and dislikes.

In General

The gallery has to be run and the mods do the best they can...if you look at the flow of images into the main gallery each day you soon realise that it is a job in itself.
