Photographers always talk technique....many don't understand the back button AF.
They can't understand why I use it and I can't understand why they don't.
Canon have a piece on their Tips and Techniques section as below
http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=2286
Once you get used to the change its invaluable.
I hope this helps a few people.
Relevant to Nikons as well, and other makers I'm sure.

Hi Brendan You put me on to this technique when I bought the 70-200mm zoom lens of you last year and I only wish I had known about it earlier. I have passed this info on to other camera users I know. Definitely worth doing!!

Theres no doubt to the benefits.
Like anything one you use it a few times using the Shutter button to focus doesn't make sense.

Odd as its the sports photographers tool. It does take a bit of getting used to, mind. Are you using AI servo for focusing? B

Are you selecting the AF point or letting the camera decide? B

It is great and helps big time. Only major drawback is that you cant zoom into the image to see if certian aprts of it are sharp etc
