Photographers always talk technique....many don't understand the back button AF.

They can't understand why I use it and I can't understand why they don't.

Canon have a piece on their Tips and Techniques section as below

http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=2286

Once you get used to the change its invaluable.

I hope this helps a few people.

Relevant to Nikons as well, and other makers I'm sure.

Hi Brendan

You put me on to this technique when I bought the 70-200mm zoom lens of you last year and I only wish I had known about it earlier.  I have passed this info on to other camera users I know.

Definitely worth doing!!

Theres no doubt to the benefits.

Like anything one you use it a few times using the Shutter button to focus doesn't make sense.

I do use this sometimes but i dont find it quite that accurate with moving subjects.

Odd as its the sports photographers tool. It does take a bit of getting used to, mind. Are you using AI servo for focusing?

Im using continuous AF (Nikon D200) and i dont think its quite quick enough to deal with fast targets

Are you selecting the AF point or letting the camera decide?

It is great and helps big time. Only major drawback is that you cant zoom into the image to see if certian aprts of it are sharp etc
