Yea I'm the power will be no greater than the flash cna produce, but its fashion/studio use I'd be interested in. Headshots for certain.

Thanks for the input guys.

Look forward to seeing the DIY pics Brendan  LOL

I think Sean commented in a different forum that the flash doesnt give 100% full light either so just be aware. And yes I realise the cost saving is enormous but then if the results arent up to par is it worth it?

As usual, there are far more options in the US than in Europe. The Hensel Ringflash 1200 P-XS looks interesting and doesn't seem that expensive, but it too requires a separate power pack which IS expensive

Not too sure if this helps but I was reading an article in the Aug edition of Digital Photo and in there there talk about a fairly inexpansive ring flash from Sigma. It is the Sigma EM-140 DG Macro Flash priced at £240.

I can scan the page if anyone wants it. Just PM your email and I can send it to you.  Wont happen to next week tho as I got a wedding later today and fly to the UK tomorrow for another wedding.

Cheers

Mike

That Sigma unit isn't really going to cut it when it comes to portrait photography as it's just not powerful enough and the light source from it is quite small too. But it's great for macro photography.

Yep I know Thorsten but thought I would offer alternatives especially if doing some closeup work ie facials etc
