Great topic.

Firstly, i think stage names are great because it means you can separate your working life from your social life.

I don't think people do this because they are ashamed of what they do or because they don't want anyone to find it, it's simply because you can tell who you like and when as some people can discrimate against you for what you do when they shouldn't. I.e when you apply for jobs later in life such as a teacher or whatever.

My first names not actually Alicia.. I choose this ages ago when I just started modeling as it's similiar to my first name and although I hate it i've become used to it and so has everyone else.

I love what I do but I work in small community pharmacy in my area whos customer base is mainly OAP's, some of which i know quite well. I'm sure most of them would be supportive what I do but some of the older generation aren't as open-minded and understanding about things such as glamour modeling. I could just imagine the look on their face if they walked into the newsagents and saw ''the wee blonde girl in the chemist'' with her baps out on the cover of a saucey magazine lol. I don't think they'd be knitting me scarfs and buying me Milky Ways anymore!

With a different name and all the fancy lighting and air-brushing I could easily deny that it isn't me to pensioner who can barely see 2ft in front of him lol. God forgive me!

hey Mrs,

good topic-I thought about in ages ago and could never make my mind up so some numpty came up with 'Kitty' for me-arrgggg it drove me nuts!!  he was a tog and put it to all my pics he took!!  although he did raise that same thing about the tax man bein after you as if you're makin money by modelling then you'd obviously be self employed!!  stress!!

could never get round to pickin abother one for myself-if i did that porn star thing i'd be meeshna kennedy lol-waaayyyy too porn starish!!

but as alot of you seem to already use a diiff name to your own maybe its time i did too!!  what about middle names??  mines estelle (i know, very snobby!!)  so could turn that to stella or somethin?

lol pete

it's about models using stage names or alias' although i know plenty of photographers that do it too.

katie, you're so lucky having a cool middle name like estelle!!! mine is louise but a lot of commercial models use louise and my surname isn't cool enough i odn't think so i'd have to change that! you could definately pull off estelle chick!

i'm so glad everyone replied, as usual i got a bit of a bashing for bringing this topic up on various forums, yet i'm not surprised that lots of people do use it just as a matter of course, for many different reasons.

i think i'll stick with leighann lewis for England because it's a bit different, more grown up than using numbers in your name which is quite teenager-ish! and it has a ring to it i think, rolls off the tongue lol

but i still want everyone to know who i really am! otherwise what's the point in your 15 minutes of fame lol

Lx

I believe its quite important to seperate professional and intimate lifes by using different names, it also helps people to associate the person in which job they might be working in.

HI, great topic leanne!  I absolutely agree that an alias is a savvy career move for a model or actor  (Reginald Dwight? Farrokh Bulsara, Archibald Leech anyone?!).  Did anyone see America's Next Top Model the season where Jaslene won and Tyra made all the girls give themselves stage names?
Since the media began stars have been doing it- more recently Angelina Jolie, Elton John, Twiggy, Kelly Brook and Agyness Deyn have all made their name by using names their parents did not give them!
I like the fact you've kept your name but have changed the spelling to make it stand out.  It may be a bit out there but I think just 'Lewis' on it's own would be pretty cool!  It would definately be memorable to have a really feminine model with a boy's name, and it also has a personal anecdotal touch behind it for you.
I'm sure there'll be lots of disagreement but there's my input!
