Hi All,
What do you guys find the easiest/best way to Spot Colour a B&W Image in Photoshop. I open the colour image, convert to B&W, and drop the B&W one on top of the colour one, then use eraser to wipe B&W away revealing the colour below HOWEVER, If I make a mistake i.e. too much colour or bleed an adjacent colour, I can't retrieve the B&W again and have to start again. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Martin.

Make a duplicate layer, then convert it to B&W, use a "Layer Mask" and a Black brush to reveal the colour layer below. If you make a mistake change to a "White" brush to add back the top layer.
Flatten the image when finished and save....

Another way is to convert to B&W then select he history brush and paint over the bits you want to turn back to colour. The above way by jim is proably the best because if you make a mistake it can be easily corrected by painting white.

Thanks Jim/Colin,
It was Jim's method I was thinking of, and couldn't remember how to do it, as I tried my other method, made some mistakes, and had to start all over again.
Thansk again Guys.

Martin.

Hi Stonewall, you need to apply a layer mask to the desaturated duplicate layer. Change your foreground colour to black, set the opacity to around 50% or whatever suits you best and just paint the colour back in.
Hope this helps....

WETHER I AM NOT USING MASK OR NOT I DON'T KNOW?
I THOUGHT IT WAS A LAYER ADJUSTMENT THAT ADDED THE MASK, HOWEVER IT IS WHEN I SELECT FOREGROUND TO BLACK AND THEN USE THE BRUSH TOOL ALL IT LEAVES IS A WHITE MARK AND DOES'NT BRING BACK THE COLOUR AND WHEN I HIT CONTROL "Z" IT RESTORES THE ORIGINAL PHOTO? OR IS IT SOMETHING THAT IS PRESET FOR SOMETHING ELSE?
CAN YOU PRESET BOX FOR PRINTING TO READ IN INCHES AS I AM FED UP CHANGING FROM CM'S
