This is something I've been thinking about over the last few weeks (yeah, I know, I've got too much time to think! ) But with all the talk about make-up workshops, requests for critique and other things, I got to thinking, wouldn't it be a good idea if there was a "Photography for models" workshop? Much as I would like to give this, I realise that most of the models on folio32 are NI based and it would make more sense for a photographer in NI to do something like this. Of course, if models are really interested in this and would be prepared to put their hands in thier pockets to pay for me to come up, then I'd have to consider that very seriously.

But here are some of the things such a workshop could address. Some of these would obviously cross over with other workshops models might have done in the past or plan to do in future.

• Types of and markets for, model images (Fashion, Glamour, Editorial, Lifestyle, Nude)
• Studio and location shoots compared and the challenges and benefits of each.
• Different types of lighting and their effects. Why a photographer lights they way they do.
• Posing - the photographer is your "mirror" (because you can't see yourself)
• Workflow overview, or what happens after the shutter is pressed.
• How to tell the difference between a mediocre image and a great image.
• Choosing a photographer (for TFP).
• The importance of communication, before, during and after a shoot.
• Model Releases.
• Copyright.

I'm sure there are other topics I've not thought about right now.

Something like this could easily fill the best part of a day. It would require a bit of preparation work on the part of the photographer but I think it would be a worthwhile exercise. Just thought I'd throw it out there because I think every model could benefit in some way or other from knowing a little more about some, if not all of the points outlined above.

Good idea Thorsten.....so many people are coming into this area of work and the need for practical advice and guidance will only increase.
