Hi All,

Just a quick request for advice from you knowledgable lot! I've been spending my spare time off work organising a reunion for a local disco that served us well as youngsters - the Lamh Dhearg - a dismal GAA club you can imagine the scene, but the source of great teenage memories non the less!

It has now turned into a fundraiser as the club didn't want to take any money and I certainly don't want to take it! However, we now have DJ costs and bouncers etc to pay so we are selling tickets at £5 each but the room only holds 200 people.

I've been told these do's normally have ballots, with a few prizes and that tends to bolster the funds but I've no idea how to go about getting any freebies as such??!

Obviously, my other half is a head chef so I can arrange say a meal for 2 in the Glenowen and the DJ said he knows someone who has a signed football shirt that he doesn't particularly hold dear, but basically I just wondered had anyone done this before and do you have any tips?

I will ask local businesses but I don't have "connections" which I think is how you get things, from friends who maybe get sent equipement or bribes from suppliers etc! My Mum's boss get loads like cinema tickets and stuff but he has 5 kids so they tend to get the lot lol

Any help is as always very much appreciated guys...

Lx

My mum has done a lot of ballots in her time and she just used to write off to businesses such as Topshop, Coca Cola, Thompsons Travel, Newlook, Tesco's etc and tell them what charity she was raising money when the event was and ask them would they donate anything! She has got LOADS of great stuff including shopping vouchers, tv's and some really nice clothes! Although I do know that she used headed paper to write off in so maybe you could print up a NoPapparazzi header paper and get writing to all the high street stores or local shops and say that you will mention their donation at the ballot! hope this helps!

Leanne, As this is a photographic community Stephanie's comment makes sense. Arrange with a tog to donate a portrait shoot as one of your ballot prizes.

also try the local businesses, as its a local gaa club, the local community will be easier to talk into donating freebies for the fund raiser.

Just approach the local businesses, face to face, and tell them what you are doing, and be brass necked and ask them what they cn offer you as prizes to give away.

Make sure they know they will be credited as the donator.
