I have a 1d with a few years and its a great piece of kit but it eats batteries be luckey to get 200 pics from a battery some days 120 and i have tried canon and spurious ones the non canon ones being better i bought a Quantum Turbo 2+2 so it is a help but its that bit heavy for lugging around with a lot of other gear going into the wood for rallys etc.

Ger

ps My buddies all have mk2 and they get 3 events per battery 3 would hardly shoot 700 pics for me sometimes 500 a days shooting,

My Nikon D3 gets 2000 shots per charge, Its a god sent.

Are you using old batteries in your 1D or are thye brand new, Im sure you already know batteries deteriorate over time.

If its a 1d or 1d mk2 then it uses a NiMH battery that even new do not do the same amount of shooting as a same power Li-Ion (that new cameras come with)

As well as this all rechargeable batteries have a life of approx 1000 charges give or take so eventually they will hold no charge.

This sounds like the problem to me.

I had the same problem with my previous camera and  was advised to completely drain the batteries a few times - fully charge and 100% drain again - especially new batteries - helps them charge/retain properly. It did seem to make some difference.

Now a D300 owner and wow! what battery life :-) sorry:-(

How about a charger problem, if its not the charger and not the batteries, I think we know where the problem is. :D

Went to the autosport show last year and had a discussion about the 1d with a fellow photographer said he had much the same problems (batteries) but he also had the problem of his one locking up this never happened mine.

it seems to be a problem just wondered did other people here suffer the same live with it or buy a mk2 and a 580 flash and a new 28- 80 2.8 and a light box and and and.

it never ends.

Canon 1d never had the battery life of the mark 2, I own both, dependind on the lens you are using you get between 300 and 400 shots, the mark 2 will give you 1200 or more clicks, this is one of the reason why i bought the mark2 and why my mark one doesnt get used, its a great camera but battery life sucks.

1d...  eats batteries

Yes, although I don't have one I've heard other people say this is a 'feature' of the mkI version.

That said, everything else seems good. I borrowed one a few weeks ago and shot the first half of a football match with it. Have to say that the focusing system is superb, and the four megapixel sensor means you get lots of pics on a memory card. The other thing I noticed that it seems to produce really vibrant, high quality jpeg files 'straight out of the camera'. Have heard other people say this too - something to do with the type of sensor it uses, which was changed in later cameras to a cheaper version.

I guess the simple answer is to get a few extra batteries to carry around with you.
