I am thinking of upgrading my lens (for studio work mainly), I was thinking of either.

Option 1 - Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC (Less costly)

Option 2 - Nikon 35-70mm f2.8 AF (More costly)

These both fit with my budget,Which would you rather have if any?

They are for fitting to my Nikon D200 (1.5 x sensor), has anyone got any experience of either of these lens or any others I should consider?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Martin

There's no dilemma here, the decision is a simple one

Definitely Option 2, Nikon 35-70mm f/2.8 AF. Not because it's a Nikon, but because it's got a fixed maximum aperture throughout its zoom range and if you're using this mainly for studio work, then you'll no doubt be metering manually and having to constantly remember that the aperture changes as you zoom on the sigma can be a real pain in the butt!

I suspect the Nikon will give you a better quality image too, especially if you intend to shoot wide open a lot (which is somehting I do quite a bit). Have a look at the review section over at Fredmiranda where you can see reviews from actual users (rather than reviewers) and compare both lens' there.

- Thorsten.
