Was over at Balmoral Show yesterday when Prince Edward was there having a look around. Managed to grab some shots.

I found the best plan was to keep running ahead and take a picture as he passed by. By doing this I could slowly zoom back as he approached and take a picture when he looked right

There was really strong and harsh sunlight at the time so I used fill-in flash on all shots (even the indoor one) to help 'tame' the shadows. Funny thing is that, in spite of this being possibly the worst type of conditions for pictures I thought it maybe worked well here, especially as he was wearing a big Panama hat. Made me think of the old advertisement that used to be on TV - "The man from Del Monte - he say Yes!" :)

Oh, and I was really close. None of these shots have been cropped in any way. They are the full frame that came out of my camera.

His security team were very polite and courteous (or maybe I've just got an innocent looking face!). When taking the next one I wasn't more than about three feet away (lens at about 40mm) and didn't manage to get the top of the Prince's head in the picture. Others with a 70-200mm

The next one was taken indoors...

Got plenty of other pictures too and might post some later.

Nice work. You handled the harsh sunlight very well. I was out doing a family portrait shoot at midday yesterday and had similar problems. The family looked at me funny when I said I didn't like the sunny day

you are wasting your time as a reporter , you should be making money showing people how to post process images the way you do...

The main thing I did here was to try and keep the contrast low, to minimise the dark shadows (still needed fill in flash to work).
