Now i have not seen it yet but a friend who is always making up things has made a cheap soft box.Nothing new here u say !!!!!!!!!

Well he bought his 500 watt halogen building lamps u know the ones that give strange colour light and go red hot .

Well he went to B & Q and got a replacement bulb 250 or 300 watt white light and then made up his frame and sheet the beauty of it the bulb gives out no heat .

Oh well my 2 pence worth.

Ger

Saw some pics they are good

So all us poor people will be heading for B & Q

The main problem i can see with this is the shutter speeds he will have to work at to get a decent aperture, the model will need to sit very still and the photographer will need to shoot with a tripod, putting a sheet infront of the 300 watt blub with really add to the problem mentioned.

I saw similar posts on few forums and I have to say that this idea is not worth it.
Halogen will alaways overheat no matter what kind of bulb you insert. Shutter speed will alaways be about 1/30 s unless you add at least 3 more halogens which will transform you studio in to sauna.
So as you can see it really does not pay.
For a complete beginners I can honestly recommend this http://www.funsports.pl/p,pl,31,lampa+studyjna+sdw45m.html
it is a simple version of flash light but it can be mounted instead of bulb in lamp.
Cheers

That site you recommend has amazing prices - the fact that it's all in Polish is little confusing, but from what I see they are selling a 60x90 cm softbox with a universal fitting for just €31.00 (£25.00).

If I can just work out if they ship internationally, I'll be buying direct from them.

Thanks for the tip.

Bill,
the simplest way to convert prices is 1 Euro = 3,5 PLN
I spoke to the shop owners about making english version of that site, they said that they work on it already.
There are few companies that ship cargo from Poland to UK and ROI, check www.ups.com and www.tdx.com.pl and you will find some info about shipping costs.
If you have some problems just drop me a line.
Cheers
