how on earth do  get my pictures to be the right size to upload on to this site?

Do you have any software for editing images such as Photoshop (any version) or PaintShop Pro?

If you have, I could probably walk you through it.

Get yourself a copy of Faststone Photo Resizer. It's free and as well as resizing of single or multiple images, it has a few nice features like adding watermarks and so on. Iuse it all the time, even though I also have Photoshop and a few other heavyweight applications. But this is just so easy to use that I often don't bother with Photoshop just for resizing.
