Next month I will be starting my tattoo sleeve. It's something I've thought long and hard about and I'm interested in finding out what peoples veiws are on models with tattoos. Do you find it more appealing or less appealing? attractive, unattractive? Jen

Personally i have no problems with tattoos on a model. however with a sleeve you may well find many photographers will be discouraged as a sleeve is harder to cover or remove in ps

From a purely personal point of view, I have never ever seen a tattoo on anyone, (male or female) that I regard as enhancing their appearance or in any way attractive. But then again, I am Captain Sensible.......boring......old......etc etc
Hang on....maybe I should change my image and get a tattooo??

You can have any of mine Ross, plenty to choose from! more tattos than you can shake a big stick at reason why I'm always covered up in my old age lol

Yeah I see where your coming from. Though I think sleeves in images where the sleeve is kept and not covered over gives the image a complete edge. A lot of people think that girls with tattoos makes them look less girly and less attractive. But in my own opinion I find tattoos really attractive, and I think once I have my sleeve finished and get a few photoshoots I'm sure some people will be surprised how pretty they can look. I suppose it all depends on peoples tastes aswell and this will probably catagorise me into a single style of modeling but its what I like and I'm sure some photogrpahers will like it also =]

I think the most important thing to realise as a model, is that having tattoos, particularly a whole sleeve along your arm, will limit your market. Some people find them attractive, others don't.. those that don't, won't shoot you. How many sleeves have you seen on super models or any famous models? Personally, whilst I find some tattoos in some strategic places quite attractive, I'm not a tattoo lover and as a photographer, I'd rather work with a blank canvas. If I need a specific tattoo for a shot, I'd have a MUA or tattoo artist draw a temporary one.

i dont have a problem with tattoos photograpically or personally.. actually have a small one my self..if you can find it! I do think it is an art form. i would use photoshop to remove reasonable sized tattoos if i think they spoiled the image.

I am a person before I am a model. If you want modelling as your life dont get it done tbh. Is you want your life as your own do what you like! I have three tats but are pretty much all coverable.

I agree that a sleeve will generally leave you with limitations. There are occasions I can think of where it may be desirable to give edge to images and occasion where it may work to cerate juxtaposition between tatoos and femininity .. but even that is limiting!
Overall, you will find it more difficult to get work, and will have to work damn hard. You will need to get stunning images that wil tempt photographer to think differently and show you are versatile and offer more than other unpainted models. If you can do that, get your sleeve ... if not. Wait 'till you finish modelling.
Ultimately you will likely find the two mutualy exclusive

I personally love tattoos - have a couple myself - and think they can work really well in the right kind of shot and I'd have no problem working with a model who has them. (In fact it'd probably work for a few ideas I have)
However, I can see how other people might have a problem and how it might cause some limitations in your career. But if you really wanna get it done - go for it, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.
