Hello Team Folio,

Been asking around a few photographers...been looking at the pocket wizards for WT, I have the Calumet wireless trigger and for £60 its fine...but I feel it mis-fires ( or lack of fires to be precise) a bit.

Just want to see what other people think or use....

In the studio we have the IR transmitter and it works ok.

The other think that is making me think the PW is the wireless trigger for the camera.

Been there, done that (ebay triggers, that is!) and also had the mis-fires - very annoying!

The Pocket Wizard II transceiver is a great piece of kit, but it's also quite expensive. I looked at using this myself, but eventually settled on the Elinchrom EL Skyport triggers. For the price of a single PW II, you can get a an EL Skyport kit which includes one transmitter and one receiver. I now have one EL Skyport transmitter and two EL Receivers and haven't had a problem with any of it to date.

As always there are pro's and cons to each system. The PW II's work off AA batteries and have a huge range, whereas the EL Skyports utilise a button cell in the transmitter and the receivers must be charged for about 3 hours (but that gives you 30 hours operation time!). The EL Skyports are not as bulky as the PW II's and they allow you to control the Elinchrom lights remotely, which is a neat feature if you've got your lights up high on a stand and want to change the power (but this only works with the newer Elinchrom heads not with any other heads).

There are other systems out there, but I really don't think they are worth considering.

I still use ebay triggers currently. It sometimes misfire but usually, it's been ok.

I use the Ebay cheap 16 channel units, and although they misfire a few frames per 1000, it really isn't a big problem, batteries last for 10000 shots at least,

I used the EL Skyports unit once and I hope it was a dud, as it was crap, it was triggering 1 in every 5 frames, so I went back my cheapo units and they saved the day LOL,

Pocket wizards, end of story and frustrations. Work first time every time completely dependable.

IF You don't have money-ebay- 4 units will cost 80eu? If You have money only pocket wizard:)

I use Pocket Wizards - very reliable, but expensive.

Next purchase may be Radiopoppers - but they're not available in Europe yet (don't have the correct frequency for here).

If you're thinking of spending Pocket Wizard type amounts of cash, then it may be worth waiting for the Radiopoppers.

It could be a lengthy wait as the approval process is slow. It will also add to the cost of the Radiopoppers. Besides, they offer no real advantage over PocketWizards if you are not shooting with TTL flash units.
