Yes, I know, I know, you've all seen these threads before. Well, until such time as folio32 has the ability to make a thread stick at the top of a forum, I think it's useful to bring this topic up from time to time and in this case I'm merely passing on information which I came across elsewhere which I feel is relevant and may be of benefit to models here.

There is some useful information on a site called WhoIsTesting. I think there is some very good advice in the Advice section under the headings of tests and usage, general, make up and modelling, covering things like test shoots, TFP/CD, communication, behaviour, what to put in your portfolio and avoiding scams.

There's also a link there to a site called Alba Model Information, which is apparently run by a former model campaigning for better regulation of the modelling industry (something which is sadly lacking over here too).

I hope this is of use to some of you.

- Thorsten.

It is in the HELP section alongside Terms and Conditions but unfortunately, like modelling, newcomers come firing on all cylinders onto the scene without even taking a moment to sit back and watch, see how things are done, read and ask questions before setting up profiles, posting randomly and just getting off to a bad start. Maybe I'm too methodical but I had looked at numerous sites, profiles and forum posts before I ever "appeared" on networking sites.

I also get asked for advice a lot, which I don't mind, but soemtimes it's pure laziness. Once I posted all the competitions that were out there for glamour models with the WEBSITE LINKS and I still got emails asking for direct links to application forms - I mean people need to do a little bit of research themselves, if you haven't got the time to put in don't ask why you're getting nothing out of it...

Now that this has been made a sticky (thanks to the powers that be!) I thought it useful to link to a few of the other pieces of advice that have been posted here in the past. I ran a Google search on the site and came across these ones which still exist (some others have been deleted and it's entirely possible that some of these may be deleted in the future also by their respective owners, so don't come running to me if a link is dead. As of today, 05/08/08, they have all be verified as active!). I'm also crediting the OP (Original Poster) in brackets.

Clicking on a link will (should) open it in a new browser window or tab.

Also a good idea to bring some change of shoes, flat comfy shoes to the location and then bring out the Manolos :)
