Early in the month I had an external hard drive fall, to by dismay it wouldn't work, it was a new drive, ich had about 10 shoots on it, some of my best work, even though I say so myself, I was heart broken, not so much for myself but for the models thats shoots where on it, even though all of them had received most of the images via email,

It is my normal practice to have these files backed up to another drive, but as my other drives were full I hadn't backed them up, all of the shoots had taken place within 2 weeks,

I decided to take a look at the drive, but still no joy, i really didn't want to dismantle it completely, I just put it away, trying to find out what could be done,

Today, after speaking William yesterday, who told me to try putting it in the freezer to see if that worked ( it worked for his work mate) I did, after a few hours in the freezer I plugged it in, but it still didn't work (at this stage it was doing what it had done since the drop, just buzzing) throwing caution to the wind I kept it power up and tapped it on the floor a few times and thankfully it started working,

yipee!!

I have been able to copy all the shoots onto another new drive, so all is good, I don't think I will be using the drive again, maybe keep it as a 3rd backup,  maybe it will be fine, only time will tell,

one happy man. :)

Keep it as a door stop for a door as far away from the computer as possible.

The freezer, uncannily, does work...apparently by contraction of parts.

Mind you, if we had fallen on our head from a great height, we would temporarily stop working

You'll probably find it will be the most durable hard drive now...

problem is I dropped it, and really wanted to get the images of it, thry would prob just have replaced it but then I would have lost everything. I'm just happy I have the images, I can live with the loss of 55 quid, but it is now working so will use is as a 3rd back up, it may run for ever now as Art said

I'd just dump it. It worked because of the freezing, but I'd be scared to use it again!
