Having used the Ebay El Cheapo wireless system for the past year and on the whole found them pretty good if you don't mind the odd miss or out of sync flash, I have now up graded to the Elinchrom Skyport System.

The reason behind the move away from the ebay HK units was made for me, as I was shooting a wedding the week before and was trying out the strobist effect lol, and these ebay units just wouldn't fire, I felt pretty wick as the bride and groom where stand behind the cake for ages lol, but eventually we got a few frames,
Knowing that I had the Train Shoot I decided an upgrade was due to be sure I was able to get the shots I wanted,

Now I know that the Pocket Wizards are the best that money can buy but they come with a hefty price tag, though if I had the money I would have probably have bought them, though I really don't need to be able to fire off flash units up to 1500 feet away.

In the end the choice was easy, Elinchrom Skyport units, the set cost £115 for a transmitter and reciever, comes in a nice wee case, with all the connection you need, so I bought 2 lol,

Well they were well and truly tested on Saturday at the Train shoot, they never missed a shot, so if you need a reliable radio system, buy the elinchrom skyport, if you are loaded buy the Pocket Wizard, if you don't mind a few misfires and work mainly in the studio then the Ebay HK units will fit the bill,

thats about it, you can see I'm bored LOL

Tim,

I've been using them for a while now, 1 transmitter and 2 receivers. I've 4 sets of the cactus ones.. I recommend ordering a spare transmitter, because they're not too common. Other than forgetting to charge the receivers, I've never had any issues..

Hi Sean

I bought 2 kits, so I have 2 receivers and 2 transmitters
I thought it made more sense to have 2 of each, plus a receiver is 75 quid bought seperate, for the extra 40 quid you get a transmitter plus leds and poch for keeping them all safe,

Well I bought the PW after my long debate with myself about them.

3 reasons I bought them was:

1. Didn't want to buy a set of other triggers and then go I wish I bought the PW (may never have happened though)

2. Remote triggering the camera was an option I liked. I have an idea for Fashionweek :D

3. To give the ego a bit of a rub.

Ive used the elinchrom Skport system for a few shoots now and I think I had one misfire and I think that was my own fault to be honest!
Seriously great buy and light-weight to top it off

I would agree Shane, great buy, though I think they could be improved by putting a locking nut on the hotshoe transmitter.

As you mention it that could be handy at some stage, but I havent had any use for it yet and at the moment it fits quite snugly!
But maybe after some use it might wear down!?

Have you been using the 2 receivers or just one?
