hey all, i really dont want to sound bad here but does anyone
think that people have started to put up just about anything in their
pic's?! ( saw a pic of a girl and her boyfriend kissing! .....and wasnt a professional pic might i add!!) i
know a lot of the new models dont have professional shots but i think
this site is starting to remind me more of bebo than a site for
photographers and models. anyone agree? i know this
sounds really snobby or bad of me but because i dont have my
professional website set up yet i send clients to look at this website
and i dont want it to reflect badly on my professionalism.

Yep, I have to agree.
Some of the images on here in the last couple of days or so arent quite what I was expecting. However, if the model(s) in question want to get into this industry properly then it might be worthwhile asking for images to be done as it will only help them in the long run.

I unfortunately have to agree. Looking at a number of photographer profiles, many are more than willing to do a shoot TFP/TFCD which should enable most beginning models to have a fairly professional shoot done at minimal cost (transport etc). The new models are all very young, and while some basic photos are a good indication, it wouldn't take much effort to get better shots done. We all have to start somewhere, and there are plenty of people willing to help new people.

im glad so many of use were thinking the same thing! i thought i was going mad thinking that i was the only one going "what the hell happened to this site"! but i do understand that everyone has to start somewhere, i just think maybe the models that dont have the professional shots done yet should only have up one or two of them,so photographers can get an idea of what they look like but not loads of them going on the piss with their friends or of their body parts?!!

I'm not sure what Paul's view is on this, I will point him to the thread.
I only was brought to the attention of this issue through this thread.

Shudder! I've nothing against Bebo, but I think you're right about the last while! There certainly is a social networking aspect to this site, but at least it hasn't decended into Mayhem (ModelMayhem I mean!). Again as others have said, a few TFCD sessions will sort that out. Perhaps there needs to be a photo vetting system for new members, where Paul approves the inital batch of images. I mean require 4 images for the gallery with approval? Sean.

Totally agree with all that has been said so far. I'm sure there already is a vetting process in place to prevent porn from being hosted here. That vetting process needs to be extended in the other direction too to ensure there is a basic minimum level of image quality adhered to. Just earlier today I made a slightly tongue in cheek remark about quantity -v- quality, in response to a query about the number of stars you get. In hindsight, perhaps that shouldn't have been so tongue in cheek as it does seem to be a case of quantity over quality at the moment.

Hmmmm... are we talking about 'snapshot' type pictures taken on little point-and-shoot cameras as opposed to carefully composed studio shots with professional lighting setups etc? Haven't been on the site much for the last few days (and I've never been on bebo), but after looking back a few pages in the gallery section I think I found some of the pics in question.
Well here's another point of view. Could it be that the snapshot, while unquestionably falling short on technical quality, can often succeed in finding the emotional core of the subject in a way that carefully posed studio pictures rarely do? I know it's tempting to discount point-and-shoot pics as worthless, but in some cases snapshots can have real style and craft. Just take a look at any edgy fashion magazine, or music industry publication, to see that these type of spontaneous pics have commercial value too.
Some people might even see them as 'art'.

For what it is worth - I agree with everything that has been said so far in this thread also.

I totally sympathise with this point, and I think that this web site can and should be a tool to promote those who work in this industry professionally. There are already plenty of Bebo like websites, so there is no reason why this should become another one! M.
