Hi Lisa

You can also get them from an Art shop or a College shop so see if there is one near you. If I can suggest getting an A4 portfolio case with ring binder and then get proper thick plastic insert wallets for it (not the cheapo ones from stationers). You'll only need 10 maximum so you can display 20 photos back to back. The A4 size came recommended by one of the top agencies in the country (Samantha Bond) so they know a thing or two.

Consider that 20 photos in a portfolio is actually too many when you go to a casting, photographer or agency so take out and put to one side the irrelevant photos for the style of work you're going for. Also put in cuttings from any publications you have.

I concur with Gordon as to the number of images you include and which ones you include. Your portfolio is a bit like a CV which should be customised for each job you are applying for. So, keep the number of images down and only select those which are relevant at any one particular time.

As to where to get a suitable folder, well, Northern Ireland isn't going to be much use to you (with apologies to those that suggested Calumet or WH Smith).

I suggest you take yourself along to O'Sullivan Graphics - if they can't help you out, I don't know who can. They used to be on Grantham St. (I think they still are) and now have a store on Camden St. I used to shop there regularly for all sorts of things when I lived in Dublin - portfolio folders, mounting board, foamcore, double-sided tape, flourescent paint, mount cutter, etc., etc.

Hope that helps.

- Thorsten.

a good portfolio is a good investment...especially whene they are really high quality and professional....

so if money aint an object i'd go for silverprint or monochrom

http://www.monochrom.com

http://www.silverprint.co.uk/

i have one of each for my print work and the quality and durablilty is amazing!

...i'd go for the leather one's instead of fabric (means u can wipe off make up smudges easier!!)

but if your just staring out then an A3 zip in easons are 24euro and super easy to work with!

x

Ruth

If money is no object, you might consider The Plastic Sandwich or The Aluminium Case Company. I've seen products from both and they are both very impressive. My preference would be as this really puts the emhpasis on your images rather than your method pf presentation.
