I'm not really sure what this means. Capture One is said to be a very good raw converter, although I haven't used it.

In spite of the line suggesting some type of simpler program will emerge (enthusiasts want professional-quality tools but don’t want to be bogged down with features and functions they won’t use), I'd say that most other programs that micro$oft gets involved in quickly become much larger and more unwieldy. Eg Foxpro, Autoroute etc.

Not surprising seeing as there was that mixed iView/Capture One deal for ages.

Now if only Lightroom did tethered capture as well as C1 for Canon.

Microsoft will just want Phase One to support their HDphoto format (as a means to get other companies to buy into the format). HDphoto is microsofts way of taking over/controlling the photo editing/management software market. It also allows them to make money of DRM technologies in the long run.
