You may think you look awful without it, but ask the photographer who has to photoshop the image, how awful you look with it! Just recently, I spent 2 hours photoshopping an image all down to fake tan!! I agree, tan can make all the difference.. fake tan however, is another story completely. I'll be honest, if a model turned up with fake tan that wasn't evenly applied or that required any rework, I'm at the stage now I'd decline to work with them. it's simply not worth the effort. So it's either natural tan or no tan for me.

Agree 100%. There's something about tan in a bottle that makes it almost impossible to work with in post-processing after a shoot. Besides, there's nothing at all wrong with a pale complexion. In fact I quite like working with it, as it makes an interesting change from the tanned look and is an asset in certain types of images. So if anyone has a naturally pale complexion, don't try and hide that fact but instead use it as a unique feature! There's nothing wrong with the tanned look of course, but it's nice to have the option to choose to work with a tanned or pale model depending on what might suit a specific need.

ok.great advices indeed.I mostly agreed with anything sayd here about the fake tan its true ,if its not applied completelly and looks purelly than the photographer could choose not to work with the model and has oll the right to do it.in my terms i think it should work as a team:the model its prepared with oll the aspects required for a session appearence its a must, proffesionalism its a first so no partying the night before i think it shows respect towards the bussiness itself, and lets be honest you ruin your reputation as a model going half way awake and trying to kep your line straight.then comunication as a second issue its verry impt, model need to know when and how to take direction as required but in the same time to take action and pose in her own terms as creative and based on feeling, either its a tpf or pay shoot the model should put itself out there 100% because the photographer is doing the same thing, and you never know this could be your passoport to pay work and a good refference to this person but only if you treated as is the real thing.what else ? make up , if you dont know how to apply it leave a proffesional to do it, never be late act proffesional in each circumstances and everything should be ok.As a must be comfartable in front of the camera cause if you are not than you choose the wrong job.IF its a new style you are shooting tell that to your photographer so he can tell you a few direction but you must be able to take direction yourself or at least to have an ideea what its required and how should you improve the shooting with your appearence.NEVER be afraid to ask advices from more experienced people even if you done thousands of shoots maybe there its a situation you didnt encounter and it will help you in any way .Last thing always listen prepare proceed .And you should see the results . thank you

more important than any of these in my opinon:
Don't be bloody late! If you are going to be late for a genuine reason, call/txt and let us photographers know. Nothing worse than sitting around wondering if the model is going to show up!

I personally wouldn't dream of going to any shoot without tan, as I think it gives a model that extra healthy glow. If there are problems applying it, then either get someone else to do the difficult areas ie. back... or consider getting a professional spray tan - it'll last a week.

My Tips for: photographers: if your using a MUA, tell your model! I have tuned up a shoots where the models arrives in full make up because they didn't know I'd be there, then i have to spend the first 20 minutes trying to get off their 50 layers of mascara.
Models: If you know there is going to be an mua on the shoot, make sure you turrn up with clean skin & all traces of make up removed. It saves so much time.
Any you can count me in on the no fake tan camp, I wear it myself for a night out but in a professional shoot its awful.
