I didn't sleep a wink last night. I think I eventually dosed a bit around 8.30-9.30 am. I was so bloody nervous about my driving test. I got up had a shower and went to check the car. It wouldn't start. I'd accidentally left the inside light on after cleaning out the for the test. DOH! Anyhow I was getting a lesson this morning so I rang my instructor. He came over with an emergency start up battery unit. We got the car going, but not after me really bricking it for 3/4 hour. I did a quick lesson and went into the test centre. Did fine on the oral exam and then into the car. They use a palm pilot type device to mark the test, and I could see the tester fiddling with it. I thought that was that for sure. My mouth was completely dry... Eventually we got back to the test centre and he says "I'll give you the results in the office". In I went nervous as hell... Out he arrives with my printed results.. He offers me his hand and says 'Congratulations!' Yes!!!!! I had 5 faults. 3 green (which are warnings and don't count) and 2 blue, 9 blue is a fail! Delighted.. I finally have my full license!
I've never gone through the links at the bottom of the page, but seeing as there is no RSS feed for the site, I was wondering how I could see recently submitted things. And I found it! http://www.folio32.com/archive/ the last link on the bottom right shows a text based link page of all recently posted things, blogs, photos, members, etc etc. Cool.

The 2 landscape images that appear in my gallery made it into the Explore pages on Flickr.com Valley to the sea is currently at #5 for the 12th Jan, http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/2008/01/12/ While Evening flow is currently at #14, having gone as high as #8 for the 14th Jan http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/2008/01/14/page2/ The 2 days out shooting when I got these, I got 10 of the best landscapes I've ever taken. I managed to lose my pouch of filters though, but still getting such recognition for them makes up for it a bit..
Online the other day, I saw a Holga 120N. I already have a rather battered one with the built in flash, but seeing this one for €27 including postage, I had to get it. Why? Well I figured it would probably trigger my flashes from the hotshoe via radio trigger. And guess what? It does. At least in the tests I've done minus film. The flash triggers with each shutter press. You have to be careful though to let go of the shutter button immediately, or it will trigger a second time as you let it up. I think I'll start with a Colour Process B&W film first before I go to doing my own processing again. Getting 120 film onto a Spiral without kinking the film is a pain when using a changing bag!
Well, Trevor and I managed to make it out into the wilderness today for some shooting and recognisance. Found a few very cool locations. I'm sure I'll be dragging a model out when the weather improves.. It was good to be out shooting others today for a change (heads up to Ronan too!)
With all the stuff going on, I've been out of the studio for ages. Even the few 'strobist' style shoots produced little usable stuff (er... The lift was a little too small and 10mm is not flattering to the model!). Anyhow. I got a Polystand to allow for better movement of the Octabox, or for an overhead light, so I've some cool ideas. Fingers crossed it all goes well.
I've done some self funded aerial work for stock in the past, but I got a last minute call to shoot a factory near Nenagh yesterday. Of course I was being flown from Galway to do the shoot. Weather was okay on the way over, but miserable on the way back. Got a few nice shots, but as the door was only off for the factory work, I had to contend with reflections. Still I really love being up in a chopper, so it was fun anyhow!
While I'm not a great XSLT coder, I;ve created a simple scroll based gallery for Lightroom. Because this is the first gallery that has an editable menu system built in, you could actually build a gallery based website entirely in Lightroom from it. http://seanmcfoto.com/lightroom/2007/10/not-so-simple-scroll-gallery.html
An odd one today. As chairman of the camera club, I get the joy of finding outside visitors that will show their work and talk about photography. I'd seen the work of a local, but international photographer. After a quick call today it seemed like a goer that they would do an evening for us. I got home to find a email stating that they couldn't possibly, because the club was open to professionals, as well as amateurs. They didn't want to discuss the work with fellow professionals. I was downhearted to say the least. In the club we have 2 or 3 pros, one landscaper, one wedding/wildlife photo, and our own (here I mean) recent pro mikeyp. My stuff is certainly not on any par with the pro stuff I view, so I hope it wasn't my site that put them off! I am understanding of their reasons though, as it's a tough enough market, without giving away the secret sauce!
Anyhow, on with getting more pros in for nights next season!
