Well, it's been a good while since I was last on here. I've been keeping busy, mostly with work. Aside from that, sports photography is my main focus and I'm still loving it. I really should do a model shoot sometime. It's something I'd like, since it's a lot more structured than sport. Just a matter of me making the time, organising a model and then getting a location. I've also been working hard to keep my website up to date and looking fresh. Never easy. That's my news for now.
Well, just decided I'd write a few lines. I've been working weird and wonderful hours again lately. Nice money, but my sleep pattern is messed up. Well, rugby season is almost over, so time to change codes. I'm starting to cover some League of Ireland football from this Fri. I also hope to start covering Dublin GAA. I really must make more of an effort to work with some of the wonderful models on this site. I guess my problem is that it takes a bit more organising - model, studio, time etc. Anyway, just my few words for now.
Well, got home from holidays on Sunday. Totally jetlagged and now I have a nasty head cold too. So, feeling totally crap. Mind you, the holiday was great. So hard to describe the landscape in the US National parks of Utah. I've posted just a few images so far on my FlickR account. It'll take me a good few more days before I have the real images ready for my own website. I think we picked the right time to visit. The weather was mild. Not hot and not too cold. Still plenty of snow on the ground. Everything was at altitude, from 2000 to over 9,500ft above sea level. When you're unfit (like I am), then the altitude really has an impact when out hiking. We just walked and walked through the canyons. Going up and down, walking to see some spectacular sights. You can see clear bands of land, giving views across history. Each band dates back to different era. This is why Utah, Colorado and such are great for hunting for dinosaur fossils. Anyway, it's easier to show images than to describe, so I'll try to post some picts soon. Now, time for breakfast.
Well, Saturday we head away on our holidays. 2 weeks in the US. Can't wait really. It's going to be so nice to have a change of scene. We're heading to Utah. The plan is to visit a number of the national parks there, such as Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands and Arches. We may visit more, or less, depending on how much we like it. We're renting a car and going at our own pace. It should be really brilliant for landscape photography. So, I'm looking forward to seeing what I can capture. When we get back, I know I'm going to need a change from shooting landscapes, so hopefully I'll arrange a model shoot or two.
Well, life and photography has been busy of late. Mostly in a very good way. Everything from U11 soccer to Leinster rugby. All very different but very enjoyable. Maybe this weekend I'll get to the Ireland V Scotland international. The following week, I head away for my holidays. 2 weeks travelling around Utah, visiting the national parks. It should be brilliant for photography, especially stunning landscapes. When I get back, I'll be working with a photography training company to provide sports photography training. A pilot course at first, with a view to regular training for those interested. After that, who knows what's ahead.
Just home from a great day. Had a shoot today, using Imagery studio. A pleasure as always. Also had the pleasure of working with jinx and stephanie. We had a great laugh, loads of ideas, and some very good images. I'm only now really starting to look at them on the PC. Some just really stand out, and it's mostly thanks to the girls for their work and attitude. I really hope they had as much fun as we did. A little comment for other photographers - both girls are brilliant. Loads of their own ideas, work well under direction, great communication, very punctual and a delight to photograph. Now, time for me to process the images, and post a few.
Well, it's a busy month. Rugby has been good and busy. I think I'm improving in that area. The more I shoot, the more confidence I get. Other than that, I booked a shoot for this weekend. So much looking forward to it. Two lovely models. Today I splashed out and ordered a 1D MkIII. Sometimes I've more money than sense. With a bit of luck, my accreditation with the IRFU will come through, and I can really test my toys and skills at the Six Nations games against Italy and Scotland. Unfortunately I'll be away for the Wales game. We've a holiday booked for the first 2 weeks in March. We're going to Utah, to visit 4-5 of the national parks there. It should be ideal for photography. Stunning landscapes and hopefully some wildlife too. So ... it's a busy month.
Life has been totally manic. Even worked yesterday until 11:30pm. No rest for the wicked I guess. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't even processed the photos I had the pleasure of taking at the last charity event and I know that was a long time ago now. Hopefully over the next week I will get time to at least do that. Anyway, I hope that everyone is having a great Christmas.
Life has been just mental of late. I've been working stupid hours. The work is easy enough and the OT pays well, but it has totally turned my life upside-down. I've been working some nights, and sleeping days. But, with the OT I may just be able to splash out and buy a nice 300mm f/2.8 IS L lens. Our car has finally been returned from Scotland. It is now being repaired. It seems that over here, the car is financially repairable, while in Scotland it was a very close call for the assessor. It seems the cost of repairs was higher there, and the value of the car lower. Anyway, the car is now being worked on, and should have it back in about another week. I will then at least have some transport. I really need to get out and do some photography. My poor camera is feeling neglected. I've been seeing some really brilliant photos posted here in the gallery and I'm so jealous. I just want to get out and photograph some of the beautiful models on the site. Anyway, it's 2:40am, I'm in work, and only another 6 hours to go (give or take an hour).
